Maypole dancing on the lawn at the back of Badsey Manor

This event celebrated the coronation of King George V on 22 June 1911. It is likely that the girls are from Badsey School with their teacher Margaret McDonald. The dancers are wearing white dresses and, perhaps, red and blue sashes. It is one of at least six photographs taken on this occasion. Other pictures show boys and girls with flags and dressed in national costumes of the British Empire.

Richard Phillips would like to express his gratitude to Pat Goldstraw for the gift of this photograph.
