BLACKMINSTER – GOLDEN WEDDING OF MR & MRS GEORGE KNIGHT

We heartily congratulate Mr & Mrs George Knight, who on Wednesday celebrated their golden wedding, and were the recipients of many congratulatory messages and presents from relatives and friends.  Mr & Mrs Knight were married at Offenham on April 12 1866, and had a family of thhirteen children, ten of whom are still living.  Two of the sons are in the army, one a farrier-sergeant now in France.  Six sons, five of whom are married, were present at a family gathering at Blackminster on Wednesday night, as well as the five daughters-in-law and a large number of friends.  A party was given to the grandchildren on Thursday.  Mr Knight has worked for Mr George Hunt for 55 years, and some of his sons have also worked for the same master, one for over 30 years, and another for 14 years.  Mr Knight is 77 years of age and his wife 73, and we are glad to know that both enjoy excellent health.  Mr Knight sang three songs at the festivities on Wednesday.  We shall give portraits of Mr & Mrs Knight next week.
