ANOTHER WICKHAMFORD MAN KILLED

Mr & Mrs William Holland, of Longdon Hill, Wickhamford, have received information that their eldest son, Private Albert William Holland, of the Worcesters, was killed in France on January 1. Private Holland joined the army in October 1916, and previously worked for Mr A T Lewis, of Longdon Hill. He was 18 years of age at the time and was 19 on August 4 1917, and went out to France on August 20 of the same year. Writing home to his parents his officer writes that death was instantaneous and he could have suffered very little pain. He adds, “During the short time that I have known him he has proved to be one of my best and most willing men. Although still very young he had the nerve of many men much older in years and I shall greatly miss him.”

A memorial service will be held at Wickhamford Church next Wednesday evening.
