BADSEY - PRETTY WEDDING

A wedding in which much interest was taken was solemnised at Badsey parish church on Monday. The contracting parties were Mr John Hartwell, eldest son of Mr & Mrs William Hartwell, and Miss Winifred May Hill, second daughter of Mr Frederick Hill, of Worcester County Police. The bride was dressed in a flowered silk poplin of cinnamon brown, and wore a cream lace hat trimmed with orange blossom. She was given away by her father, and was attended by Miss Lucy Hill (sister) and Miss Ida Byrd. The bridesmaids were attired in white dresses trimmed with blue, and white hats trimmed with a blue ribbon and heather. All three carried white prayer books Mr Basil Hartwell (Bidford – brother of the bridegroom) was best man, and Mr Richard Hartwell (the remaining brother) was groomsman. The church which was prettily decorated for the occasion, was well filled, and the happy couple were recipients of numerous presents and good wishes for their future welfare. The Rev. W.C. Allsebrook (the vicar of Badsey) expressed his regret, that owing to indisposition he could not officiate, and the ceremony was conducted by the Rev C. W. A. Preston (vicar of Offenham). An interesting event in the festivities was the presence of the bridegroom’s grandmother, who, although over 90 years of age, is in possession of her faculties. After the ceremony she enjoyed her first ride in a motor car to the residence of the bride’s parents.
