Second Lieutenant Robert Bailey, who was the brother of Mrs Helen Lees-Milne of Wickhamford Manor, is honoured on the war memorial at the crossroads of Limes Road and Church Lane, Kemble. Robert had a house in Ewen, three miles from Kemble, which is why he appears on the memorial.
The war memorial at Kemble is a three-metre tall stone Crusader cross set on a plinth, sited close to the Church of All Saints. It has four metal panels on the sides of the plinth. The first panel says: THEIR NAMES LIVETH FOR EVERMORE. Robert’s name is one of five to be recorded on the second panel.
