Worcestershire – Broadway: St Michael and All Angels Church

Lance Corporal John Sidney Cull, who grew up in Badsey, is honoured on the Roll of Honour in St Michael and All Angels Church, Broadway.  John Cull (or Jack as he was more commonly known) was living in Broadway at the time of his marriage in 1916, hence the reason for his inclusion on the Broadway memorial.

The Roll of Honour, completed in the latter part of the 20th century, contains the names of 49 men who died in the First World War, 21 men who died in the Second World War and one man who died in the Malayan Emergency.  It is in a glass case inside the church and is headed with the words:

TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN MEMORY OF THOSE WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN TWO WORLD WARS

At the bottom are the words:

GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN THIS, THAT A MAN LAY DOWN HIS LIFE FOR HIS FRIENDS

IN MEMORY OF THOSE WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 - 1919
