Private Joseph Harris was born in Shipston on Stour, Warwickshire, the son of Charles Harris, a builder’s carter, and he enlisted in Worcester.  In 1911 he had been a domestic servant at the Orchard, Ebrington, working for the Stanley family. The Army records place him in the 16th Battalion, Royal Warwickshire Regiment (No 30098) when killed, but the memorial says the Worcestershire Regt.  However, the Army record also states that he was originally in the Worcs. Regt. (No 30418) and then transferred.  He was killed in action on 3rd September 1916 in France.  His exact Wickhamford connection is unknown, but he was probably working there when he enlisted. His death is recorded on the Thiepval Memorial (Pier and Face 9A, 9B and 10B), as his body was never recovered.
