Our new book - out November 2018

PEACE, WAR & REMEMBRANCE

THE GREAT WAR IN BADSEY, ALDINGTON & WICKHAMFORD

OUR  NEXT  PUBLICATION  -  NOVEMBER  2018

Pre-publication price, £5

As part of our WWI project, “Badsey, Aldington and Wickhamford - a rural community's view of the Great War”, The Badsey Society will be publishing its fifth book in November – our first since 2011. Written by Maureen Spinks, the book looks at all aspects of village life during this pivotal point in history. The war was fought not just on the battlefield, but also on the home front.  Children grew up in the shadow of war, their fathers absent or lost. Women became directly involved, picking up the pieces of industry and agriculture as the men went off to fight. Many hours were spent in fund-raising for a multitude of good causes in connection with the war.  The community during that period also included Belgian refugees and German prisoners of war.

As with the earlier books, we invite you to support the project by purchasing an advance copy. Everyone who does this will appear in a list of “subscribers” at the end of the book and will be invited to the launch (where you will be able to collect your book) which will take place on FRIDAY 9TH NOVEMBER 2018 in St James’ Church, Badsey, at 7.30 pm.  To become a subscriber, please complete the form below and send a cheque for £5 payable to “The Badsey Society” to John Sharp, Honeysuckle Cottage, 24C High Street, Badsey, WR11 7EJ, to arrive no later than Friday 21st September. If you live outside of Badsey, Aldington, Wickhamford or Evesham, and know that you will not be picking up the book in person at the launch, please also include £3 to cover postage and packing.
