Meadow grasshopper

Chorthippus parallelus can be found in long grass, which is its food plant. It is camouflaged to hide in lush grass, which is greenest early in the season. This specimen, however was found on the 25th August 2017 by which time it had reached its mature size. The characteristic chirping noise is produced by rubbing the hind legs against the wings.
