DEATH OF MR THOMAS SADLER

We regret to report the death of Mr Thomas Sadler of Wickhamford Road, Badsey, which took place at his home on Wednesday last.  Mr Sadler, who was 88 years of age, was the only son of the lat Mr & Mrs R Sadler of Badsey and formerly of Honeybourne.  Born at Draycott, near Blockley, he started work at the early age of seven, and was engaged in the farming and market gardening industries until his retirement only about two years ago.  He spent the greater part of his life in Badsey, moving with his parents from Honeybourne Grounds to Bickmarsh Hall, but after only a short stay thee came to Badsey, and worked with his father in the employ of the late Rev T H Hunt.  Soon after his marriage he moved to Charlton, but after only a short stay there returned to assist his father again.  Moving from Glebe Farm to stone House, he was engaged in farm work and market gardening, and later when he moved to his present address, he was engaged in the market gardening industry.  He was a remarkably active man, and two years ago was often seen working on the land.  He was a keen follower of the Badsey Rangers Football Club, four of his sons being well-known players.  Mr Sadler was also one of the oldest members of the Evesham Oddfellows Club.  He is survived by seven sons, his wife pre-deceasing him nineteen years ago, and his only daughter eight years ago.

The funeral took place at Badsey on Saturday afternoon, the interment in the parish churchyard being preceded by a service in St James’ Church.  The Vicar (Canon W C Allsebrook, RD) officiated.  The chief mourners were Mr H R Sadler, Mr E Sadler (sons), Mr & Mrs A F Sadler, Mr & Mrs J Sadler, Mr & Mrs W Sadler (sons and daughters-in-law), Mr W Woodward Senior (son-in-law), Messrs L Sadler, T J Sadler, W Woodward Junior, E Sadler and J Sadler (grandsons), Mrs C Freeman and Miss I Sadler (granddaughters), Miss E Hartwell and Mrs A Jones, Snitterfield (nieces), Mr & Mrs S Priest, Birmingham, Mr F Salter Junior and Mr T Swain, Evesham.  Following the interment numerous beautiful tributes were placed on the grave.
