DISTRICT NEWS, BADSEY – WHEELER-READE WEDDING

The wedding took place at St James’ Church on Thursday of Miss Frances Evelyn Christabella Wheeler, eldest daughter of Mr & Mrs F R Wheeler of 33 Synehurst, Badsey, and Mr Arthur Sidney Read, only son of Mr & Mrs A S Read of Bidford-on-Avon.  The ceremony was conducted by the Vicar (Canon W C Allsebrook).

The bride, who was given away by her father, was charmingly attired in a dress of white satin and a wreath of orange blossom and veil.  She also wore white satin shoes.  She carried a bouquet of red roses and white carnations.  Here bridesmaids were Miss Doris Wheeler (sister), Miss Joan Wheeler (sister) and Miss Joyce Heritage (cousin).  Miss Doris Wheeler was prettily attired in a dress of lemon crepe with a black picture hat and shoes to match.  She carried a bouquet of yellow tulips.  The Misses Joan Wheeler and Joyce Heritage were daintily attired in dresses of lemon crepe, net caps and white shoes and stockings, and each carried a bouquet of white heather and narcissi.  The duties of best man were carried out by Mr L Bott.  A large number of friends and relatives were present at the ceremony and the bell-ringers gave peal during the afternoon and evening.

The bride is well-known in the district, having been a member of the Girls’ Friendly Society for a number of years.

The groom is equally popular in Badsey and Bidford-on-Avon, where for many years he has been a member of the Bidford church and a regular bell-ringer.

A reception was afterwards held at the home of the bride’s parents.  Mr & Mrs Read’s future home will be at Bidford-on-Avon.  They were the recipients of numerous handsome and useful presents, including a table from the manager and staff of Messrs W Woolworth & Co’s branch at Evesham where the bride has been employed since it opened.
