CHORISTER 40 YEARS – Funeral of Mr G E Jones of Badsey

The funeral of Mr George Edwin Jones, market gardener, of Badsey, took place on Wednesday.  Mr Jones, who was 72, died at the hospital on Sunday.

He was well known in the village, having been a Vicar’s warden for a number of years, a special constable and a member of the British Legion, and the RAOB.  For 40 years he had been a member of the Parish Church Choir.  He is survived by a widow and a son and daughter.  Mr & Mrs Jones celebrated their golden wedding six months ago.

Canon W C Allsebrook officiated at the funeral in St James’ Church.  There was a full choir and the hymns were “Nearer my God to Thee”, “On the Resurrection morning” and “There is a blessed Home”.

The chief mourners were the widow, Mrs G Jones, members of the family and other relatives.  There were also present representatives of the Badsey Parochial Church Council, Special Constabulary and the Cirencester Conservative Benefit Society.  Councillor G S D Aldrich represented the British Legion and the Evesham Servicemen’s Club.  Mr C J Byrd represented the Simon de Montfort and Earl of Coventry Lodges of the RAOB.

There were many wreaths.
