EVESHAM NOTES – A MAN DROWNED
On Saturday, an inquest was held at the Fleece Inn, before Dr Marsh, coroner, on the body of George Stanley, 48, drainer, of Badsey.  Deceased was returning from work on the 4th ult with a fellow workman, and whilst crossing a plank at Harvington Weir, he missed his footing and fell into the current, being carried away and drowned.  His body was not recovered till Friday last, when it was picked up at Evesham as it was floating down the river.  Deceased’s money, £2 0s 5d, was found safe in his pocket.  The jury returned a verdict of “Accidental Death”, adding that the crossing at the weir was dangerous, and should be protected or stopped up.
