1928 wedding – Fred Cleaver & Edith Jelfs

Wedding of Fred Cleaver and Edith Mary Jelfs on 18th April 1928 at St James’ Church, Badsey.

Fred (1897-1955) was the seventh of ten children of Frederick William Cleaver and his wife, Jane (née Kilby).  He was born at Preston on Stour, Warwickshire, but moved to Bretforton in childhood.  Edith (1898-1996) was the fourth of six children of George Rogers and Ashley Jelfs.  The Jelfs family had lived in Badsey for several generations.

Fred and Edith remained in Badsey for the rest of their lives.  Their first child died aged 20 hours.  Their only surviving child was Norman Leslie Cleaver.  Their granddaughter, Nicola Cleaver, also married at Badsey Church.

We are grateful to Fred and Edith’s daughter-in-law, Daphne Cleaver, for providing us with a copy of this photo.
