Congratulations to Mr & Mrs Fred Stewart of Almondbury, Bretforton Road, Badsey, who celebrated their silver wedding on December 23.  They were married at St Lawrence Church, Evesham, on that date in 1922.

Mr Stewart comes from an old gardening family and is the eldest son of Mrs E and the late Mr F Stewart of Highmead, Badsey.  He is a partner in the firm of Messrs F Stewart and Sons, and has interested himself in years gone by in several organisations in the village.  He was formerly treasurer of the Royal Oak Welcome Home Fund and of the Remembrance Hall Fund.  He is a member of the local branch of the British Legion, having seen service with the Devonshire Regiment during the 1914-18 war.

He also takes a keen interest in boxing activities among the youth of the town and is an enthusiastic member of the committee of Evesham Amateur Boxing Club.

Educated at Badsey Council School he played football in his younger days for the old Badsey Rangers’ reserves.

Mrs Stewart is the youngest daughter of the late Mr & Mrs D Hampton of Littleworth Street, Evesham, being a native of the town.  She was educated at Merstow Green School.  During the 1914-18 war she was a popular member of the staff of the Evesham Post Office.

Mr & Mrs F Stewart have three daughters, one son and three grandchildren.

A reception was held at the Old Schools, Badsey, in the evening when over 100 guests sat down to a splendid repast.

Mr Harry Stewart, who was best man at the happy couple’s wedding, proposed their health and Mr & Mrs F Stewart both replied.  Dancing followed to the strains of Eddie Mace’s Dance Band and several members also gave songs.

Several congratulatory telegrams were received and they were also the recipients of numerous presents.
