MINUTES OF THE BADSEY SOCIETY 23rd ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
Friday 7th February 2025, 7.30 pm
1. Welcome
Maureen welcomed the 42 members who were in attendance. It was not possible on the evening to offer Zoom but, the following evening, a Zoom presentation of parts of the meeting (Chairman’s review of the year, Doug Deep video, the talk held after the AGM) was made available.
2. Apologies for absence
Apologies were received from Helen Green, Galen Bartholomew, Ross Davis, John Poulter.
3. Minutes of the last meeting
Shirley read out the minutes of the last AGM and they were agreed as a true record.
4. Chairman’s report
Maureen gave her report in the form of a Powerpoint demonstration. She then outlined the lecture programme for the year.
5. Treasurer’s report
Maureen, in her role as Acting Treasurer, began by saying that it was with great sadness that it was herself and not Will Dallimore (who died on 27th December), who was standing before the meeting tonight to deliver the Treasurer’s report. She could not emulate Will’s poetic report of last year, but she hoped that members would bear with her as she presented the Society’s accounts for 2024. The Society was still in a healthy position, ending the year with a total of £5,293. There were no questions about the accounts.
6. Appointment of independent examiner
Clive Richards confirmed that he is happy to carry on as Independent Examiner.
7. Election of officers
• Chairman – Maureen Spinks, proposed by Kerry Moreton, seconded by Jane Neill; elected
• Treasurer – There were no nominations
• Secretary – Shirley Tutton, proposed by Tony Spinks, seconded by Steve Entwistle; elected
Maureen said that it was disappointing that no one had stepped forward to take on the role of Treasurer as a Society cannot function without this key role, but she hoped that someone would volunteer in the forthcoming months. In the meantime, she would carry on as Acting Treasurer until a new person could be appointed.
8. Election of committee
The rest of the committee – Helen Green, Andy Higgitt, Tom Locke, Jane Neill, Alan Tutton, Gill Woods – were prepared to stand again. They were re-elected en bloc by a show of hands. There were no nominations for new committee members.
9. The Tony Jerram Award
The winner of the Tony Jerram Award was announced as Will and John Dallimore. Following the Will’s sad death, it was decided that he deserved to be honoured as a posthumous recipient of the Award, together with brother, John; between them, they have done so much for the Society and the village. John was not present to receive the Award but this was taken to him the next day. As a tribute to Will, his film about Doug Deep (first aired at the AGM in 2013) was shown.
10. Any other business
There was no other business.
The AGM closed at 20.17.

After the formal part of the meeting there was a talk by Alan Tutton entitled “Lantern Slides of the Middle Eastern Campaign of WW1”, based on a collection of slides by Ralph Bolland’s stepfather.
