1987 - Newspaper cuttings and letter concerning stolen oil painting

Description

Newspaper cuttings concerning a 17th-century oil painting worth £1500 which was stolen from St James’ Church, Badsey.  The painting was “The Virgin and the Child” by Carlo Cignali.  It was reported stolen on 24th October but no one was certain exactly when it was taken.  The painting measured 26” x 32” and was hung on the south aisle of the church, on the right as you enter the building.

Also includes a letter from West Mercia Constabulary dated 22nd October 1987.
