My Darling Eugénie,

I have just time to write you a few lines before post closes as Alfred Hitchman & his friend have just left, and I have been anxious to thank you for your kind welcome letter received this morning, I am afraid I went to bed last night in bad spirits but it was a cheerful awakening to have your dear letter brought up first thing this morning, Mrs Chouls knows your handwriting and if I am not up early always brings up any communication from you.

You need not fear, dearest Eugénie, I am quite happy in the thoughts that my own darling feels sure that her presence is necessary to my happiness.

I cut some most lovely roses yesterday and only wished you could see them.  You will I know be pleased to hear of my great success at Wellingboro’ flower show on Friday, I got a local florist to take my stands, four first prizes, viz 24 roses, 12 tea scented roses, and 6 gladioli in two separate classes.

I am glad you enjoyed your day at the Zoological Gardens I can fancy the children were amused.

To-morrow I must write you a few lines which I hope you will receive prior to leaving on Tuesday (if you do go then) how I wish I could manage to see you off.  I have thought of you very much to-day and of the Sundays we have spent together, I think bye and bye Sunday will always be a happy day with us for we shall have more of each others’ society on that day than any other.

God bless you my own darling,
Ever believe in the love
Of your own affectionate

Julius Sladden
