Cornelia Gwendoline Williams (1898-1983), known as Nellie, was the sister of Mary Christabel Sladden (née Williams) who had married Arthur Sladden in April 1914.

Nellie was born on 16th November 1898 at Dowlais Rectory, Glamorganshire, the eighth of nine children of the Reverend Llewelyn Morgan Williams and his wife, Georgina (née Rowlands).  She was baptized in the church at Dowlais on 17th December 1898.

In August 1914, on the outbreak of war, the Sladden family were holidaying at Craig y Mor, Newport, and met up on a number of occasions with members of the Williams family. Nellie is mentioned in one of the letters written during this period.

Nellie married Robert Gwynne Childe Crawshay Sandeman, a landowner, in 1934 in the Abergavenny district.  She was living at Dany Park, Crickhowell, in 1939.  Nellie’s husband died in 1952 at Guy’s Hospital, London.  Nellie outlived him by over 30 years and died in 1983 in the Pontypool district, aged 84.
