Kent - Deal: Kent House, Upper Deal Road

Deal is a coastal town in Kent, 8 miles north-east of Dover and 8 miles south of Ramsgate.  The coast of France is approximately 25 miles from the town and is visible on clear days.

Kent House on Upper Deal Road was the home of John Noakes Coleman (uncle of Julius Sladden) and his wife, Sarah (née Pocock).  They lived there in the 1880s and 1890s (having previously lived at Great Mongeham, Kent) and were resident there at the time of the 1881 and 1891 census.  John’s brother, George Coleman, was living at Rosway House, Middle Deal Road; their wives were also related, John’s wife, Sarah (née Pocock), being the first cousin of George’s wife, Marian (née Rees).

By 1901 John and Sarah Coleman had moved to Bristol.
