
BUTTERWORTH (née REMINGTON), Lucy Agnes
Lucy Agnes Butterworth (1861-1938) was the cousin of Charles Binyon, being the daughter of Frances Remington (née Binyon), who was the eldest sister of Charles’ father.
Lucy Remington was born on 11th August 1861 at Downham, Lancashire, the eldest of six children of the Reverend Reginald Remington and his wife, Frances (née Binyon).
On 26th June 1884, Lucy married the Reverend John Compton Butterworth at West Malvern, Worcestershire. They had four daughters: Katharine Mary Compton (1886-1956), Frances Margaret (1890-1967), Constance Lucy (1893-1972) and Eleanor Mary (1897-1960). Lucy was widowed in 1904 when her husband, who was then Vicar of Christ Church, Carlisle, died on 30th July; her youngest child was seven at the time. After John’s death, Lucy went to live at The Flags, Cartmel.
Lucy died on 11th January 1938.
