IN MEMORY OF MR J D PETHARD – Peal Board unveiled at Badsey

A peal board to the memory of Mr John Douglas Pethard was unveiled in St James’ Parish Church by Mr C A Binyon  The board is the gift of two friends.  A peal of Grandsire Triples was rung on the anniversary of Mr Pethard’s birthday last year.

The service was conducted by the Vicar, Canon W C Allsebrook, with Mr L Sharp at the organ, and there was a large congregation.

The 23rd Psalm, together with the hymns, “Jesu, the very thought of Thee”, “Oh, what the joy and the glory must be” and “As now the sun’s declining rays” were sung.  The lessons were read by Mr C A Binyon and Mr G E Churchill.

During the service the peal board was unveiled by Mr C A Binyon and the Vicar said:  “We place this peal board here to record the peal rung on these bells on his birthday, October 27th 1937, as a mark of respect and affection for the memory of John Douglas Pethard, a member of the band of ringers, and for many years a devoted chorister of this church.”

Before and after the service the ringers rang touches of Grandsire Triples, those taking part being Messrs J C Perkins, W D Sparrow, John Hall, F Sadler, A J Taylor, J W Heath, G A King and G Moisey.
