Three Badsey Worthies

How many villages I wonder can boast of having three inhabitants whose combined ages total 273 years?  Such is the case at Badsey where a special service was held at the Parish Church recently in commemoration of the 90th birthday of Mr Alfred Sparrow of Brewers Lane.

Among the congregation, I am told, were Mrs Henry Keen (a sister of Mr Sparrow) and Mr William Mustoe, who has the honour of being Badsey’s oldest inhabitant.

Mr Mustoe, who lives at Church View, will be 97 next month, while Mrs Keen, whose address is Rose Villa, is 86 years and 6 months.  Although not one of this trio is a native of the village, all have spent the greater part of their lives there and are much respected.

The two gentlemen are former sidesmen, while Mrs Keen’s husband was for many years a churchwarden.  Their health is as good as can be expected in view of their great ages; indeed, they all walked to church at the recent service I have referred to.
