Miss Edith Williams and Mr F G Smith

The marriage took place at Malvern Baptist Church on Wednesday of Miss Edith Williams, second daughter of Mrs E R Williams and the late Mr Evan Williams of Birtley, Manby Road, Great Malvern and Mr Frederick George Smith, youngest son of Mr A W Smith of Blackminster, Evesham.

The bride, who was given away by her brother, Mr Peter Scott Williams, wore a picture gown of deep cream shadow lace with matching coloured poke bonnet trimmed with a tuile veil to tone and carried a bouquet of red roses.

Miss Ethel May Steel, the senior bridesmaid, was attired in a deep cream frilled poult picture gown with a crimson velvet coat, cap and muff.  The child bridesmaids, the Misses Phyllis and Jill Holland, nieces of the bride, worse similar picture gowns of the same shade and crimson velvet capes, hoods and muffs.  The page, Master Mervyn Williams, brother of the bride, wore a crimson velvet suit trimmed with cream lace.

The service was conducted by the Rev F J Coward.  The hymns were “Lead us Heavenly Father” and “O Love Divine”.

Mr A W Smith of Blackminster, Evesham, brother of the bridegroom, was best man.

A reception held at the Beauchamp Hotel was attended by about 30 guests.  Mr & Mrs Smith then left for North Wales where the honeymoon will be spent.  Mrs Smith was attired in a clover coloured dress, brown fur coat with hat to match and had clover accessories.

Among the many gifts received were a gold wristlet watch, the bridegroom’s gift to the bride, and a silver cigarette case, her gift to him.  The bridesmaids received silver bracelets.

Mr Smith is the manager of the hardware department of James Ward Ltd, Worcester.  The bride’s bouquet was afterwards placed on her father’s grave.
