EVESHAM BRIDE, KIDDERMINSTER GROOM
Lady Journalist Married

For two years a member of the editorial staff of the Evesham Standard and for more than a year employed in a similar capacity by The Kidderminster Times, Miss Iris Hilda Olsson, daughter of Mr & Mrs E A Olsson of Claybrook Nurseries, Badsey, near Evesham, was married at Salwarpe Parish Church on Tuesday by the Rev W Lound, to Mr James Turton Cowell, elder son of Mr & Mrs A T Cowell of Heath Lodge, Chaddesley Road, Kidderminster.

Miss Olsson, who is an accomplished tennis player and a hockey enthusiast, played in several representative tennis tournaments, and for some seasons kept goal for one of the Evesham Ladies’ Hockey Club teams.

On joining the staff of the Kidderminster Times – incidentally, she was Kidderminster’s first lady journalist – she became a member of the Greenhill Tennis Club and regularly participated in its inter-club matches.

Mr Cowell, who, until taking up work of national importance, was employed by Messrs Pritchard, Godwin & Clist, the well-known Kidderminster firm of architects as a draughtsman, is a capable rugby player, and has consistently assisted the Kidderminster club.  He is also a keen golfer and is a member of the Kidderminster Golf Club.

The bride, who was given away by her father, was dressed in navy.  Only relatives attended the ceremony which was of a quiet nature.  Mr George Nicholls, cousin of the groom, was best man.

Mr & Mrs Cowell are to take up residence at Droitwich.
