Monumental Inscriptions (1983-1993 BMSGH Survey)

The Federation of Family History Societies (founded 1974) had a long-term plan to record the monumental inscriptions in all the churches and churchyards throughout the country.  In the 1980s and 1990s, the Birmingham and Midland Society for Genealogy and Heraldry, as a member of the Federation, assisted by encouraging their members and other groups within the area to record the memorials in the midland counties of Staffordshire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire and the West Midlands.  Copies were made and deposited in four places:  Worcestershire Record Office; the Local Studies Department of the Birmingham Reference Library; The Society of Genealogists, London; the Birmingham and Midland Society for Genealogy and Heraldry Library.  Peter Stewart, who was involved with some of the surveys, was given a complete set of the Worcestershire parishes by one of the surveyors, Linda Bushell.  He has now kindly donated these to the Badsey Society archive.
