Flower Show

This collection contains records relating to Badsey Flower Show owned by The Badsey Society, eg schedules, programmes, certificates, newspaper cuttings.

Badsey Flower Show is one of the premier horticultural shows in the Vale of Evesham. Established in the 19th century, it continues to attract crowds from far and wide. The first Flower Show was held in 1888 and has been held every year since then with the exception of the war years and a few other years (in 2007, the Show had to be cancelled because the ground was still water-logged following the severe flooding which had occurred one week earlier). The Flower Show was originally held in Vicarage Meadow on a Wednesday but, in the 1920s, it moved to the Recreation Ground. In 1937, the day was moved to a Saturday. The Flower Show is still held each year at the Recreation Ground on the nearest Saturday to St James’ Day (25th July).

The other main repository for records relating to the Flower Show is the Flower Show Committee. Their earliest records relate to the 1900 show, known at the time as the Badsey, Aldington & Wickhamford Flower Show.
