Church Cottages

Two cottages, known today as Vine Cottage and Rose Cottage, Nos 8 & 10 Chapel Street, Badsey, date back to the 19th century and, for a 16-year period during the latter part of the 20th century, belonged to St James' Church, Badsey.

Vine Cottage was bought by Miss Ethel Sladden in 1932 and let out to tenants. When Ethel Sladden died in 1961, she left Vine Cottage as a legacy to the church. Her sister, Juliet Sladden, then bought the adjoining Rose Cottage in 1961 for the benefit of the church.  These cottages were both formally handed over to the church in 1965.  In 1982 the Parochial Church Council sold both cottages to private owners.
