Peter Braby (1911-1994; Vicar 1958-1973)

Peter Braby was born at Cheam, Surrey, in 1911, the youngest of five children of Cyrus and Ada Braby. His father was a metal manufacturer and he was born into a privileged background, growing up in a house in the pre First World War years with a cook, parlourmaid and nurse. Peter graduated from Christ Church, Oxford, with a BA in 1932 and an MA in 1937, and was ordained at Wells Theological College.

Peter Braby married Eileen Grace Danks in 1943; they had two children by adoption, Jonathan and Mary. The Brabys moved to Badsey in 1958, Reverend Braby’s previous ministry having been in London. On leaving Badsey in 1973, Peter Braby took up an appointment at Temple Guiting. Peter Braby retired in 1976 and moved to Surrey where Eileen died in 1992 and Peter in 1994.
