Quarterly Badsey Society newsletter sent to members. Events: End of Closure Project Evening attended by Mike and Bernard Hewlett, descendants of Elizabeth Ballard; Day School on Enclosure Records when Dr Steven Hollowell led workshop; AGM where the Committee and Officers were re-elected and a new member, Jane Neill of Aldington will be the Archives Officer; and slide show of aerial photographs taken by Richard Phillips. Future Events: Whitsun Walk on “Getting to know your Foothpaths”; Badsey Flower Show and talk on the old Oxford, Worcester & Wolverhampton Railway. It was hoped to undertake Badsey archaeological walk and details were given of Worcestershire walks taken by the Historic Environment & Archaeology Service. Death of Rosalind Davies reported. Rosalind was the district nurse, health visitor and midwife for Badsey between 1955 and 1977. Regarding effects of 1783 Volcanic Eruption of Laki, Diana Wallis contacted us about 1748-1795 Weather Journals of Rutland Squire. Diana had ancestors living in Badsey in 18th and 19th centuries. Mick Taylor donated Badsey’s Poor Rate Book for 1890 which listed the occupier and owner of every house and piece of land in village. Launching DVD “Beyond the Blossom” which recorded seasons on a Vale orchard on Knowle Hill and demise of three-quarters of Vale’s plum orchards. Names of Committee members: Will Dallimore (Chairman), Maureen Spinks (Secretary), Terry Sparrow (Treasurer), Ian Gibson, Tony Jerram, Mike Lovatt, Jane Neill, Richard Phillips, Neil Thould.
