Badsey Society Newsletter No 34, October 2010

Description

Quarterly Badsey Society newsletter sent to members. Events: launch of our project “The Last Market Gardener” at Badsey Flower Show and trip to The National Archives. Future events: AGM and talk; 1911 census activities; launch of book on market gardening and Whit Walk. Robert Hancock, Porcelain Painter and the author of a book “Heroes & Villains of Worcestershire” came to our attention because he was supposed to be Badsey born, but we found no trace of him. The Regal Cinema has obtained its grant for its refurbishment. We looked at 1910 Valuation Office Survey for Badsey and Aldington and our photographers took photographs of all pages. One entry for 11 High Street, formerly Vine Cottage in 1912, stated that owner was G Attwood Senior and occupier was George Bernard Roberts and his wife Winifride. Property which was renamed Meadway House in 2004 now belonged to Michael Gowers. Members also undertook personal research, Brian and Hazel Smith found Brian’s great-grandfather Hubert living at Bengeworth Fields House. Finally Evesham Volunteer Centre were appealing for older village members to volunteer to be interviewed for forthcoming book on local history on villages. We also appealed for help from Microsoft Access users which Society would like to use in the future. Committee members: Mike Lovatt (Chairman), Maureen Spinks (Secretary), Terry Sparrow (Treasurer), Steve Bucknall, Will Dallimore, Ian Gibson, Valerie Magan, Jane Neill, Richard Phillips, Neil Thould.
