WEA Evesham History Workshop: Crime in the Vale of Evesham, 1651-1670

Description

A selection of cases which came before the Worcestershire court of quarter sessions 1651-1670, illustrating everyday crim in the 17th century; original records held at Worcestershire Record Office. The cases were studied by a WEA class meeting at Church House, Market Place, Evesham, 1985-1986; the class of 14 included David & Iris Brazier and Shirley Tutton of Badsey. One case (on page 1) relating to a Badsey person: John White, butcher, appeared at Broadway 4th April 1651 before Sir William Sambach, JP, accused by Edward Bushell of Cleeve Prior of sheep-stealing. Also mentions John White's sister, Mary Bradshaw, and his daughter, "about nine years of age, that was then sick and desired to eat some mutton". Also contains letter (i) dated 2nd April 1987 from Alan and Shirley Tutton of 34 Seward Road, Badsey, to Alan's mother, which accompanied the book.
