1902 - Aug 25, memorandum from John Smith & Sons concerning a query about the new church clock

Description

Letter to the Reverend W H Price from John Smith & Sons (Frank & John H Smith, Partners), Midland Team Clock Works, Queen Street & Market Place, Derby, Manufacturers by Special Machinery of every description of Clocks, Chimes, Carillons etc for Cathedrals, Churches, Stables, Railway Stations, etc - concerning the proposed new clock and the addition of “Westminster” chimes.

Dear Sir

We beg to thank you for your favour respecting the proposed new clock for your church – the “Westminster” chimes could be added at a future time providing that the frame was left large enough for the machinery of the chimes to be added, but it would naturally cost more than if it were done along with the making of the clock – this extra cost would be about £5.  If you seriously thought of having the “Westminster” chimes we should strongly advise you to have them made along with the clock.  With regard to your second query we should be very glad to meet your convenience in regard to the payment and would suggest that we would allow half of the amount £64) to remain unpaid for a year if half was paid on the completion of the clock in the tower, or we should be glad to make any arrangements that may suit you.

Soliciting your further favours

We beg to remain

Yours obediently

John Smith & Sons
