1902 – Oct 14, memorandum from John Smith & Sons concerning the new church clock

Description

Letter to the Reverend W H Price from John Smith & Sons (Frank & John H Smith, Partners), Midland Team Clock Works, Queen Street & Market Place, Derby, Manufacturers by Special Machinery of every description of Clocks, Chimes, Carillons etc for Cathedrals, Churches, Stables, Railway Stations, etc - concerning the acquisition of two more bells which will enhance the chimes of the new clock:

Dear Sir

We are very glad to hear that you are having two more bells to make the octave.  Of course the chimes will be much better with the hour struck on a separate bell, the tenor, the chimes playing on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 7th according to the music you have sent us is the correct way – the other bells cannot be used.  Will you tell us the name of the bell founders as we shall have to alter our arrangements for the hammers a little.

Yours faithfully

John Smith & Sons
