1946 – Newspaper clipping concerning a centuries-old dispute with the Bishop of Worcester

Description

Newspaper article about the induction of Rev J G Jeffries to the living of Badsey and Wickhamford:

In a few lines – Quarrel with Dead Abbot Ends

When, for the first time in history, the Bishop of Worcester inducted a vicar to the living of Badsey and Wickhamford, he ended a centuries-old dispute.

It had never been done before because, long ago, the Abbot of Evesham declared that the Bishop of Worcester had no jurisdiction over his abbey or any of its benefices.

Even at the Reformation, when Christ Church, Oxford, took over, the custom was continued in a friendly way.  Not it is ended, and the Rev J G Jeffries, formerly of Tottenham, is the first inducted vicar.
