Harlequin beetle

Harmonia axyridis does not live up to its harmonious name as it is a recent invasive species from North America. Commonly called the Harlequin beetle the adults and larvae are keen predators and even attack native ladybirds. The species, which is very variable in patterning, is still spreading around Britain and it is carving its own niche in the native biodiversity.
