1941 wedding - George Robbins & Gertrude Smith

The wedding took place on, 16th August 1941, at the Church of St John the Baptist, Wickhamford, of George Henry Robbins and Gertrude Elizabeth Smith.  The photograph was taken by the church porch.  Those in the picture, from left to right, are bridesmaid Betty Barmby, best man Raymond Smith, Mrs Annie Robbins, in front of her husband, George Edwin Robbins, George Henry Robbins, Gertrude Elizabeth Smith, bridesmaid Doris Haines, Arthur Smith, bridesmaid June Lambourn and the bride's mother, Emily Smith.  Emily Smith was widowed and her son, Arthur, gave the bride away at the ceremony.  The Smith family lived in Evesham.  The Robbins family lived at 16 Pitchers Hill, Wickhamford (now 46 Pitchers Hill).   At the time of his wedding, George Henry Robbins was serving in the Royal Engineers and his father was a market gardener.  George had been evacuated from France in 1940 and later in the War served in North Africa, Sicily and Italy.
