RAILWAY TRAINS CANCELLED

Several of the railway companies are restricting their services, no doubt because engines and rolling stock are required for military purposes.

Comments

Most fruit and vegetables produced by market gardeners was at this time transported by rail, to markets in the major cities or to customers throughout the country; so disruption to railway services affected businesses locally and delays could result in produce spoiling.

During this period of war many of the railway companies asked their customers to deliver produce to their stations earlier.
