VILLAGERS WELCOME VE-DAY WITH DANCING AND PARTIES

BADSEY

On VE-Day the residents enjoyed an old-fashioned dance at the Council School.  The following day, to the accompaniment of the church bells, various streets organised parties for the children, one highlight being the ubiquitous jeep to one party by some American soldiers, who gave every child at the party a special ride, much to the youngsters’ delight.  A tea party was organised outside Messrs Butler’s Stores, and a special attraction was free ice-cream.  A dance was held in the Old Schools and was well attended.  A small cake was auctioned for the benefit of the local Forces’ Fund.  The cake realised £27.
