Petrol filling station plea rejected

An appeal by Mr P G Osborne against the refusal by Evesham Rural District Council to permit a petrol filling station at Brook Meadow, Synehurst, Badsey, has been turned down by the Minister of Housing and Local Government.

In his decision letter, the Minister said that be agreed with the view of the inspector (Mr G M Jefferies) who conducted an inquiry at Evesham on April 20 that the proposed development would be "an alien intrusion" into the pleasant open character of the area and would also be a possible source of road dangers.

The inspector noted that the appeal site was part of an area on the approved development plan where existing uses were intended to remain undisturbed and that the planning authority was opposed to any development not essential for agriculture between the village of Badsey and the outskirts of Evesham.

He was not convinced there was any particular merit in the erection of a petrol filling station on the site. He recommended that the appeal he dismissed and the Minister concurred.
