FROM PUB TO POST OFFICE

A man who was born at a hostelry and has been the licensee of another for the past 30 years, has decided to leave the licensing trade to become a village postmaster.

Mr Thomas Henry Marshall, licensee of The Victoria Arms at Bretforton since 1927, will hand over the licence of the inn to a new landlord next Wednesday.

For he and his wife have settled down in a new job – that of looking after Badsey’s village post office.

Mr Marshall was born at The Wheatsheaf, Badsey, where his father was licensee for 40 years.  He saw service in the 1914-18 war.
