DISTRICT NEWS, BADSEY – WEDDING

The marriage took place at St James’ Church on Saturday morning of Miss Mary Florence Charlotte King, only daughter of Mr & Mrs G A King of The Orchards, and Mr George Edward Olsson, second son of Mr and the late Mrs E A Olsson of Claybrook Nurseries.  The marriages was solemnised by the Vicar (Canon Allsebrook, RD).  The service was fully choral, the hymns, “Through all the changing scenes of life” and “Lead us, Heavenly Father, lead us” being sung.  Mr L Sharp was at the organ and as the happy couple left the church played a Wedding March.  The local troop of the Girl Guides formed an arch with white ribbon and under this the bridal party passed.

The bride, who was given away by her father, was charmingly attired in a dress of pale blue silk with overdress of Brussels lace (the gift of her aunt), while she also wore a white crinoline hat.  She carried a bouquet of white and pink carnations and chrysanthemums and maidenhair fern.  She was attended by Miss D Clifford (her friend), Miss Joan Hunt (her cousin) and Miss Betty Smith (her friend).  Miss Clifford’s dress was of pale pink organdie with a biscuit-colour hat and pink trimmings and she carried a bouquet of pink roses and white carnations with maidenhair fern.  Miss Hunt and Miss Smith were daintily attired in dresses of flowered blue organdie, with caps comprising wreaths of blue and pink forget-me-nots and pink sashes.  They also carried bouquets of pink and white roses.  The duties of best man were carried out by Mr Henry King, brother of the bride.

The bride takes a great interest in the Girl Guide Movement, and is Captain of the Badsey Troop.  The bridegroom is well known in the district, being a member of the Badsey Juniors Football Club some years ago.

A reception was afterwards held at the home of the bride’s parents where several relatives and friends were entertained.  Mr & Mrs Olsson were the recipients of over 50 beautiful and handsome presents, including a biscuit barrel engraved with the bride’s name and date of the wedding from the Badsey Troop of the Girl Guides.  The happy couple will make their future home at Reedley Road, Abingdon, Berks.
