BADSEY WEDDING

The wedding took place at St James’ Church on Saturday of Miss Alice Knight, eldest daughter of Mrs and the late Mr Charles Knight of 1 The Leys, and Mr Charles Henry Whiting, son of Mr & Mrs A Whiting of Bideford-on-Avon.  The ceremony was performed by the Vicar (Canon W C Allsebrook).  The bride, who was given away by her friend, Mr R Porter, was charmingly attired in an ankle-length dress of art silk crepe with a white satin yoke, while her headdress comprised a long flowing veil and a halo of orange blossom.  She also wore white shoes and stocking to tone and carried a bouquet of pink carnations and fern and wore gold cuff links, the gift of the bridegroom.  She was attended by two bridesmaids – Miss Edna Knight (sister) and Miss Edith Ballinger (niece of the groom), both of whom wore dresses of crushed raspberry crept with pink satin cape yokes and headdresses of green satin trimmed with roses.  They also wore pendants, the gift of the groom.  The best man was Mr H Hall.  Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the home of the bride’s mother, and later the happy pair left for Weston-super-Mare where the honeymoon is being spent.  The bride travelled in a pink costume with hat to match.  Mr & Mrs Whiting will make their future home at 4 The Leys, Badsey.  Mr & Mrs Whiting were the recipients of numerous presents, including one from the staff of the Littleton and Badsey Growers Ltd and one from the staff of the Worcester Co-operative Society where the bridegroom has been employed for some years.
