BENGEWORTH WEDDING
Considerable interest was taken in the wedding at St Peter’s Church on Saturday of Miss Doris Ford, the eldest daughter of the late Mr W Ford and Mrs W Ford of 49 King’s Road, and Mr Alfred William Sparrow, the younger son of Mr & Mrs A C Sparrow of Southfield [sic – should be South View], Badsey. The Vicar (the Rev A H Lewis) officiated and the bride, who made a charming picture, was given away by her brother, Mr D Ford. Her long gown of white taffeta was made with dainty lace insertions and embroidered in silver at the wrists and neck, while her veil was held in place by a wreath of orange blossom. A pearl necklace and a sheaf of Madonna lilies completed a delightful bridal ensemble. The Misses Annie, Phyllis, Eva and Nora Ford, who were in attendance on their sister, were attired in becoming dresses of pink georgette and lace and black picture hats trimmed with pink velvet. They carried bouquets of chrysanthemums, matching their frocks and wore necklaces of gold and crystal, the gifts of the bridegroom. The fifth attendant, little Miss Connie Ford (niece of the bride), looked charming in a long georgette frock with a wreath of silver leaves in her hair and carried a posy of white anemones. Mr C Harwood was best man. After the ceremony, a reception was held at the Montfort Café. Among the 40 guests was the bridegroom’s 85-year-old grandfather, who was also present at the church. Later the happy pair were “At home” at 49 King’s Road, where the numerous wedding gifts were admired. These included a set of carvers from the Badsey Rangers’ FC. The bridegroom is of a market gardening family, well known in the Badsey district, while the bride, who has been an employee of Messrs Willmotts for the past 15 years, has numerous friends. Many good wishes, therefore, will accompany them to their newly-built residence in Brewers Lane, Badsey.
