BRETFORTON WEDDING

A very pretty wedding took place in St Leonard’s Church on Saturday, the contracting parties being Miss Elsie Knight, third daughter of the late Mr & Mrs Edwin Knight of Victoria Terrace, and Mr Reuben John Bennett, youngest son of Mr & Mrs William Bennett of Belmont Terrace, Badsey.  The Vicar (the Rev J H Waugh) conducted the service.  The bridge was given away by her brother-in-law, Mr J Halford.  The duties of best man were carried out by Mr J Mansell Dowdeswell (the popular Badsey Rangers footballer).  The bride, who was attired in white georgette, wore a Juliet cap and embroidered veil.  She carried a bouquet of red and white roses.  She was attended by Miss Hilda Jelfs (friend) and the Misses Iris and Nancy Halford (nieces).  Miss Jelfs was attired in a beige suede georgette dress and wore red velvet head leaves and red satin shoes and carried a bouquet of red tulips with trailing fern.  The Misses Halford wore white silk dresses and white velvet head leaves with white shoes to match.  They carried posies of lilis of the valley and red carnations.  The hymns “Lead us Heavenly Father, lead us” and “Thine for ever, God of Love” were sung, Mrs Dowdeswell being at the organ.  Following the service a reception was held in the Memorial Hall when approximately 100 guests were present.  The bride and bridegroom, who are both well known in the district, were the recipients of many useful presents.  They will make their home at Cotswold View, Badsey.
