MARRIED AT ALL SAINTS’, EVESHAM

Miss Evelyn Vera Smith, first daughter of Mrs and the late Mr Charles William Smith of 10 Rynal Place, Evesham, was married at All Saints’ Church, Evesham, on Saturday, to Mr Cyril Arthur Jelfs, son of Mr & Mrs Frederick Jelfs of Brewers Road, Badsey.
The ceremony was conducted by the Rev T W W Phillifant (curate), and Mr A M Slatter at the organ played the hymns, “O, Perfect Love” and “Lead Us, Heavenly Father, Lead Us”. Mr Louis Jelfs, brother of the bridegroom, was best man.
Given away by her uncle, Mr Harry Smith, the bride wore white figured satin gown with a long train and a net veil, held in place by gardenias. She carried a shower bouquet of pink roses which she afterwards placed on the grave of her father.
There were three bridesmaids, the Miss Betty Smith (bride’s sister), Frances Harman (bride’s friend) and Jean Jelfs (bridegroom’s niece). The two elder attendants wore gowns of apple green velvet, muffs and Juliet caps trimmed with peach velvet. The smaller bridesmaid wore peach velvet and a poke bonnet and muff trimmed with green velvet.
A reception afterwards held at the Montfort Café was attended by 50 guests. As the bride left the church, she was presented with lucky silver horseshoes by Masters David Smith and Brian Petty.
A large number of handsome presents included a clock from the bridegroom’s workmates and a cheque from his father. Presents were also received from the workmates of the bride who, for the past ten years has been employed by Messrs Willmotts Ltd, Evesham.
