Miss D Haines and Mr L Shelley
Eldest daughter of Mr & Mrs Norris Haines of Wickhamford, and sister of Jack Haines, the Evesham Town footballer, who joined Liverpool last November, Miss Doris Haines was married at Badsey on Saturday to Mr Leslie Shelley, only son of Mr & Mrs E Shelley of Badsey.
Dressed in white satin and wearing a long veil held in position by a halo of orange blossom, the bride, who carried a sheaf of Madonna lilies, was given away by her rather. Her three attendants were the Miss I Sadler (friend), B Harris (cousin) and Miss K Shelley (sister of the groom). All wore pink coats over dresses of satin, and a halo of gold leaves. They carried tulips and wore gold bracelets, the gift of the groom. The ceremony was performed by the Vicar (Canon W C Allsebrook) and the duties of best man were carried out by Mr J Walker, cousin of the groom.
Some 40 guests were afterwards entertained in the new schools, Badsey, Mr & Mrs Shelley later leaving for London for their honeymoon. The bride travelled in a powder blue dress and London tan coat and hat. Among the numerous handsome gifts was a canteen of cutler from Mr & Mrs G C Lees-Milne, a china tea service from Mr & Mrs Townsend, the bride’s employers, and a barometer and clock from the staff of Messrs A W Beach & Son, where the groom is employed.
