Miss L C Johns’ Canadian Bridegroom

The marriage was solemnised at Stratford-on-Avon Parish Church on Wednesday of F/O Arthur George Angus, RCAF, son of Mr & Mrs Robert Young Angus of North Bay, Ontario, and Miss Lucy Christine Johns, elder daughter of Mrs A L Johns of Harrington House, Badsey, Evesham.

The bride is well known in Stratford and district.  For seven years she has been private secretary to Mr H M Stevenson, proprietor of the William and Mary Hotel, Stratford-on-Avon, and since the outbreak of war has driven a YMCA tea van serving military sites in the Midlands.  The bridegroom is a navigator.  In civil life he is an eye specialist.

The Vicar of Stratford, Canon Noel Prentice, officiated at the service.  Mr A Williams was at the organ, the music including “Jesu, joy of man’s desiring” (Bach), Purcell’s “Trumpet Voluntary” and Mendelssohn’s “Wedding March”.

The bride, who was given away by her brother, Mr S Johns, wore a pale pink linen suit with navy accessories, and pale blue ostrich feather hat with navy veil.  She also wore a spray of sweet peas and pink roses.  F/O J Calder (the bridegroom’s pilot) was best man.  The bride’s mother was attired in a black and white crepe dress with black and white hat and accessories.

A reception was held at the William and Mary Hotel, and F/O and Mrs Angus afterwards left for a honeymoon at Broadway, the bride travelling in a red crept suit with navy accessories.

The many presents included a silver cigarette box from the staff of the William and Mary Hotel.
