AGG, George Albert (1873-1952)

Burial on Feb 16th 1952 of George Albert Agg, aged 78 years.

By the death of George Albert Agg, Wickhamford Church has lost one of her most devoted sons.  His long service as Churchwarden is well-known, but it is for what he was rather than for what he did that he will chiefly be remembered.  He was everywhere esteemed for his absolute integrity and deep sincerity.  To his friends he was unfailingly loyal, kindly and understanding.  Gentle in manner and speech, anything that was mean, insincere, or underhand roused him to righteous anger.  When his strength began to fail, his attachment to the Church he loved grew deeper still, and the reality of his faith became even more apparent as he realised “the call home” might come at any time.  No one could have faced the fact of death more calmly.  So he slipped quietly away from us, to rest in the nearer presence of his Lord.  We are very conscious of the gap in our Church life, but cannot but give thanks for the memory of one who truly “walked with God”.
