Mr A E Thorne, for Messrs Shindler, Thorne & Co, appealed for Edmund Joseph Jelfs (18), carter, Badsey. Their previous carter had gone. They had over 40 acres of land and there were two horses. Jelfs had not been medically examined. He worked on the land in the summer, and in the winter at their grist mill, at Wickhamford. They employed two skilled men, a man who looked after pigs, and three conscientious objectors.
